
The Morgantown Fire Department has concluded the agility and written testing for this testing peroid. The next test will be given in the spring 2004.
Requirements

| Residency | Must establish and maintain a permanent residence in West Virginia within a ten (10) air mile radius of 228 South High St. (Central Fire Station) Morgantown, West Virginia, within one (1) year and sixty (60) days of notification pf permenant status. |

Vacation time is accrued on a yearly basis.
0 to 2 years of service 120 hours
2 to 5 years of service 144 hours
5 to 8 years of service 168 hours
8 to 11 years of service 192 hours

Sick Leave:
Accrue 1-1/2 days per month of service
Maximum Accrual - 90 days
Medical Insurance:
Major medical on employee and their family.
$250.00 deductible per person per year or
$500.00, must make contribution.
Educational Benefits:
The City of Morgantown offers excellent educational
opportunities, including a cooperative effort with Fairmont State College,
with the opportunity to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Development
and Safety.
- Books and tuition paid by City at completion of course with a
"C" average.
The City also offers the opportunity for Enhanced & Specialized training in all areas of the fire service. Some of these training opportunities include Code Enforcement, Advanced Arson Training, HAZMAT, etc. To date some of our members have attended classes in MD, Fl, SC, GA, PA, and other areas of the country.
Uniform and Cleaning Allowance:
The City pays a flat fee of $100.00 per year
for cleaning of uniforms to each employee.
Protective Clothing: Provided by the Department.
Retirement: Minimum of 20 years of service
Minimum of 50 years of age
60% of salary for 20 years of service
75% of salary for 30 years of service
Disability Retirement:
60% of present pay
0 to 5 years of service - must be job related
5 or more years of service - any disability
Holidays: Approximately 12 paid holidays per year
Morgantown Fire Department Background:
- Fully paid department since the early part of the century
- 45 Uniformed employees
- 3 separate Stations
-14 member crews consisting of a Captain, 2 Lieutenants, and 12
Fire Fighters
- We currently operate:
3-4 Member Engine Companies
1-2 Member Ladder Company or 1-2 Member Rescue Company and
3 Stations
Shift: 24
hour shift beginning at 0800 hours
Average 56 hour week after one (1) month;
First month = 8 hour per day Mon. - Fri. (40 hour week)
(Training & Indoctrination Period)
Training: 6,000
hour apprenticeship program.
Specialized subjects and refresher training taught by Training Officer,
Company Officers, and through outside schools and seminars.
Job Advancement:
Must hold each rank at least two years.
Promotion is through Civil Service.
