Morgantown Fire Department and Local 313 have a bright future. Ideas are being discussed to bring complete computerization within the department, to include all engines & stations. We’re looking at the feasibility of diversifying into the world of EMS, to include medic engines and transport units.
Expansion of the City Fire Marshall’s office and development of an arson team along with the Morgantown Police Department are also being considered. With construction in Morgantown already exceeding 1,000,000 sq ft. per year, and the recent acquisition of over 2500 acres of land owned by West Virginia University, additional engines, manpower and stations will be needed.
Morgantown is moving quickly towards the 21st century and Local 313
plans to be a part of it. Morgantown Fire Department is funded by a city
ordinance Fire Service Fee, currently at a rate of 4.75 cents per sq. ft.
of finished space for residential buildings. Higher rates are established
for commercial and special occupancies. This amount is directed exclusively
for fire department budgeting needs, covering all but approximately 11%
of the department’s needs.
